SUMMER CAMPS 2024

Magical stones, knights and beasts, wizards and forest creatures and an epic ocean adventure! This summer is going to be action packed with stories from the mystical heart of Britain to the imaginative universe of Miyazaki and Tove Jansson. Stories that teach us what do when we’re faced with the hard-knocks in life and how to overcome even the most fearsome adversaries. What is real beauty? How does one become a knight? What can a hawk teach us about courage? Will the sun come out tomorrow? Yes it will! Always.

We can't wait for a full 6 weeks of papier-mâché music, dance and story telling! Here is our official announcement that yes we will be doing 6 weeks of glorious handmade theatre summer camps from July 8th to August 16th, 2024.

Enrollment will open Tuesday FEBRUARY 20th at 10am!!!! Watch this space!

F.A.Q.

  1. What time is the camp? - Each camp runs for 5 days (Mondays - Friday) from 9am to 2:30pm.

  2. What can we expect? - Our handmade theatre camps are a full immersion into the magical world of each story and all the work and fun that goes into putting on a show! Campers will be given parts on the first day, and will work at home to memorize their lines, practice and make a homemade costume. During camp, they will paint the set, rehearse the play, learn all about stagecraft and working together with an ensemble. There will be art projects, and singing and of course the thrill of performance!

  3. Did you say a homemade costume? - Yes! Campers will be cast in the play on the first day and campers (and parents) will be in charge of crafting a costume at home, unless otherwise noted by your director. We expect parents to take a starring role in helping their actor make their costume. Thrifted and handmade (cardboard, felt, needle and thread, hotglue gun) is encouraged. It makes for good memory making with your actor at home, and is far more visually exciting and charming!

  4. Will there be a performance? On the last day of camp (Friday at 1pm) there will be a performance where parents will be invited to watch the play.

  5. Can I record the show on my phone? - We ask that audience members follow the normal protocol and etiquette usually expected at the theatre. (No recordings/or photography). We go to great lengths to record and document the performance for everyone. We want parents to just sit back and enjoy the show in real life. In addition, it makes it very difficult for us to record the show when phones get in the way. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation.

  6. Do I need to prepare a lunch kit? Yes, every day we will have a short 15 min snack break and a 30 minute lunch break. Every camper needs to bring their own snacks and lunch!

  7. What should they wear? Campers should wear clothing that they can easily move around in as well as appropriate clothes for the Art classes. Kalabash will provide Art aprons, but be prepared for mural/set painting on the first day!

  8. What if my camper gets sick, or our summer plans change and we need to cancel? - Please review our cancelation policy below:
